NOVA PEERS®

Evidence-based Social Skills Development for Children & Teens

PEERS® is an evidence-based social skills program for children (grades 3-6) and teens (grades 7-12) who are interested in learning new ways of making and keeping friends. This internationally acclaimed program, taught in over 125 countries, was originally developed at UCLA by Dr. Elizabeth Laugeson. During each class, participants are taught important social skills and are also given the opportunity to practice these skills. Parent participation is required. While all parents are taught how to assist their children to make and keep friends, the format of both groups vary. Parents of teens attend separate sessions at the same time as their teen participants. Parents of elementary-age participants do not attend class, but are given support through weekly check-ins in addition to extensive support materials. All parents are given skills to help expand their child’s social network and provide feedback through coaching during weekly socialization homework assignments. PEERS® may be appropriate for any child or teen interested in making and keeping friends. PEERS® is especially helpful for those with Level 1 Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Anxiety, Depression or other social and behavioral disorders.

“Worth every penny! Through the PEERS® course, my son was able to acquire skills and confidence to be able to increase his daily social interactions and build new friendships.”

Keva, Teen Group Parent

“If you even suspect your child could benefit from PEERS® and some coaching on social skills, you’re right. This is my second child to go through the program and I am so impressed with the skills they’ve gained that I didn’t quite know how to help them with. It’s powerful coming from someone else and in a friendly group setting where they can practice, succeed, and gain confidence. Highly recommend!”
